【教材说明】

马立平中文课程的二年级教材是以课本为核心并相互配合的整体，其中包含：

• 课本：1本，（每节课带到教室）
• 练习册：3本，分别为单周、双周和暑假练习册（按需带到教室）
• 生字卡片：3种字卡独立成册，白色字卡附在练习册中（按需带到教室）
• 网络作业的注册账号：1个，印在课本封面上（课后在家完成）

马立平二年级课本共3个单元，每个单元通常包括5部分内容：

• 基础内容：课文、生字表以及词汇表
• 认识汉字：表意部首和表音部首，帮助学生认识和理解汉字结构
• 语法点：课文中出现的一些常用字词的用法以及中文基本语法
• 课后阅读：大部分是已经学习过的字，极少数没有学过的，会有图解。材料也融合了激发思考、培养品格等教育要素

During my time there, I won an essay award and represented my grade by delivering a speech in front of the directors and principal. After coming to the United States, I have been volunteering as a tutor for Chinese, English, Math, Science, and Coding, covering students of different age groups, and have received the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for my contributions. I’m really looking forward to learning and growing together with everyone. I’ll do my best to help students better understand and grasp the material, customize teaching methods that suit them, and create a positive, lively, and well-structured classroom environment.

Stephanie Liu is a second-year PhD student in School Psychology at Texas A&M University, and she holds an MA in Educational Psychology and a BS in Biology. As an American Born Chinese (ABC) from Los Angeles, Stephanie is excited to contribute to the growth and development of other ABC children and adolescents in College Station. From kindergarten to high school, Stephanie was a student at her local Chinese school, where she later was employed during college as a Teaching Assistant and after-school Journalism Teacher. Howdy! My name is Jiajia Du. I am currently a second-year PhD student in Educational Human Resource Development at TAMU. I also work as a full-time program coordinator at the Texas A&M Institute for Technology-Infused Learning (TITIL). I began learning dance at the age of seven and am skilled in various dance styles such as Chinese classical dance, jazz, and modern dance. I am also good at some traditional ethnic dances, as I am of Zhuang ethnicity.

During high school, I won the Gold Award in the Guangxi Youth Dance Competition. While studying at Ocean University of China (OUC), I served as the head of the university's Student Art Troupe, directed two graduation Gala at OUC, and was the captain of the cheerleading and aerobics teams in the School of Economics, leading the teams to win championships in cheerleading and aerobics competitions for two consecutive years. My love for street dance developed gradually through cheerleading training, and I have performed street dance and jazz dance at multiple events.

I hope my passion for dance can inspire more children - dance not only helps improve their physical coordination and confidence but also stimulates their creativity and expressiveness. My classes focus on training foundational street dance techniques while incorporating fun elements of Chinese dance, allowing children to learn and grow in a joyful environment. The dance we practice this semester will be a show for TAMU Chinese New Year Gala.

• 学习小提琴及中提琴的优势

• 从五年级开始，学生可以加入校乐团，六年级开始，将以学生水平来分班

• 交响乐团几十把小提琴、中提琴，上台演奏的机会多，玩的不要太开心，锻炼心理素质及培养舞台经验。而一个乐团中只需要一架钢琴。

• 体积小，便于携带，任何时候都能演奏。

• 学习小提琴是金耳朵，以后学任何乐器都会比较容易。

• 功利一点说：比赛多，考乐团的机会就多，申请好大学更有优势

• 比赛及上台表演（交响乐团，室内乐，独奏）的机会大大多与钢琴。自六年级开始至12年级，每年会有全美权威比赛：all regional 及all state，并且当地会有青年乐团。以及校比赛，区比赛，室内乐比赛，独奏比赛，协奏曲比赛，UIL等等

Class Description:

This class will teach string players (violin, viola, and cello players) how to perform chamber music, which is a form of classical music performed in small ensembles. Students will be placed into groups based on their skill level and recieve thorough coaching and instruction. At the end of the semester, chamber groups will perform in a recital for parents and other students.

Additionally, students in grades 6-8 may recieve optional help preparing for Middle School All-Region Orchestra auditions. If opted in, students will recieve group instruction, participate in live mock auditions, and recieve detailed feedback and criticism on their playing.

Required:

Instrument and appropriate accessories (rockstop for cello, shoulder/chin rest for violin/viola, rosin, pencil, etc.)

Prior musical experience

Optional:

Binder or folder to store music (highly recommended)

Michael Wu is a sophomore at A&M Consolidated High School. He was the 1st chair cellist of the TMEA Region 8 South Zone Middle School Orchestra during both 7^th and 8^th grade and was the 4th chair cellist of the TMEA Region 8 High School Full Orchestra during his freshman year of high school. He has been selected for several prestigious music programs, such as the Chamber Music Institute at the University of Houston, the Houston Youth Symphony, and the Philadelphia International Music Festival’s Solo Performance Preparation Program, where he also received chamber music coaching. His experience and expertise will guide students in developing as musicians and learning collaborative skills, as well as preparing students for All-Region auditions.

Eric Wu is an 8th grade honors student at Wellborn Middle School. He has kept straight A's in all his classes in both elementary, intermediate, and middle school. He is also a part of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). Eric has participated in Math UIL many times and has done well, helping his school win first place in the Math UIL. He has been learning more advanced math compared to other students in his age for most of his life and has lots of math experience. He is a great leader and will try to make math class fun.

We will be using the Singapore Math(R) Intensive Practice book. 

I plan to follow the books closely but spend a small percent of class time on challenging problems and problem solving.

Singapore math is credited with helping Singapore be #1 in the world many times in math for 4th and 8th graders. It covers fewer topics more deeply.  It has a psychology-based 3 step process model: concrete, pictorial, abstract. An emphasis on problem solving is included. Singapore math covers topics at a faster pace compared to US schools.

I have always been good at math and majored in mathematics in college.  I was nationally ranked: 17th in America on the MAA exam and 30th on the Putnam exam.  Starting in high school, I have tutored students from pre-K through college. Here at the Chinese school, I have taught Singapore math and the popular Chess class for years. I work hard to improve student's knowledge, skills, confidence and motivation.

I am currently an 8th grader attending Wellborn Middle School. I am a member of the National Junior Honor Society. I have a lot of experience in competition math. In the AMC competitions, I received the "Honor Roll of Distinction" and "Honor Roll Certificate" for the AMC 8 (2024), and the "Certificate of Achievement" for the AMC 10 (2023). In 2022, I received the "National Honorable Mention" in the Noetic Math competition. In 2024, I also participated in Mathematics/Number Sense UILs, achieving the highest score in Mathematics UIL at Wellborn Middle School. I love math and would like to share my experience and knowledge in competition math with others.
